Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon
Lenovo continues to update its Carbon line with the latest components, and this latest model is a perfect example. A powerful 14-inch laptop that can handle your busy work while saving space in a slim, classic design. It’s incredibly well built and maintains the black ThinkPad aesthetic.
The current ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 10 offers a 12-core/16-thread Intel Core i7-1260 processor along with 8-32 GB of RAM and up to a 256-2 TB PCIe SSD. You can also upgrade the screen to a UHD+ model if you want a better picture. With Wi-Fi 6E support, this laptop includes advanced connectivity options like Thunderbolt 4/USB-C ports for the fastest wired connection.
Lenovo Yoga 9i 14
The Yoga 9i 14 Gen 7 competes with the ThinkPad X1 Titanium Yoga in Lenovo’s 2-in-1 convertible lineup. The Yoga 9i 14 has been updated to the 7th generation and not only looks great with its rounded chrome edges, it also works great in tablet mode. The build quality is excellent and the laptop looks unmatched by other Lenovo laptops.
The highlight of the Yoga 9i is the 12th generation Intel Core processors offering Core i5-1240P, Core i7-1260P and Core i7-1280P for high performance. Memory can be configured to 16 GB and SSD can be configured to 1 TB. There are three gorgeous 14” 16:10 display options, including an optional 4K UHD (3840 x 2400) screen.
Multimedia is supported by a rotating soundbar that wraps around the bezel and delivers rich sound in all modes: clip, tent, media and tablet. The only downside here was peak volume distortion, but the volume reduction mitigated this problem somewhat.
Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 7 Pro
It’s not often you get a $1,000 big-screen, big-power 16-inch laptop, but that’s exactly what you get with the Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 7 Pro. It all started with the AMD Ryzen 7 5800H processor, which (as mentioned above) will compete against 12th generation Intel processors and the AMD Ryzen 6000. But for now, it offers superior performance for productivity and creative tasks.
The value of the IdeaPad Slim 7 Pro is further enhanced with a 16:10 16:10 (2560 x 1600) IPS display at 120Hz. Improve Windows 11 animations and make everything on screen smoother. But all is not so good in the series. It’s also bright, delivers above-average colours (though not exactly for those looking for creative types), and offers excellent contrast.
There’s not much to complain about with the Ideapad Slim 7 Pro. It’s a well-built, fast and affordable laptop.
Lenovo ThinkPad Z13
The ThinkPad Z13 has a name in its lineup, but it doesn’t look very good. If you don’t like the “black on black” aesthetic of a standard ThinkPad, that’s not necessarily a bad thing. The ThinkPad Z13 offers a more modern design with an added leather case for warmth and comfort. The red trackpoint button sits in the centre of the flat, clean keyboard, and the new tactile touchpad works better than the mechanical version.
Under the hood is a high-end Ryzen 7 PRO 6860Z processor with 32GB of RAM and a 1TB SSD. From a management perspective, the ThinkPad Z13 was a good choice for most 13-inch laptop users. The screens are either 2.8K OLED or full HD+ IPS panels, and connectivity has been upgraded. It may not look like a ThinkPad, but it sure is.
Lenovo ThinkPad Z16
Like the smaller ThinkPad Z13, the ThinkPad Z16 takes a completely new aesthetic direction. Yes, there are red buttons, but in addition, the black silver, aluminium chain looks different. The keyboard is small, light to the touch, but clear and precise. The touchpad is large and works well. Not as good as Apple’s version of Force Touch, but still good. Lenovo has used significantly more durable materials in the ThinkPad Z16 (if that matters).
Even the Ryzen 9 PRO 6950H still has AMD. All these processors have 8 cores/16 threads and provide excellent performance for resource intensive tasks. A discrete AMD Radeon RX 6500M GPU is available for demanding creative applications. The display features a UHD+OLED panel that offers excellent colours and contrasts.
Lenovo ThinkBook Plus Gen 3
ThinkBook Plus Gen 3 is Lenovo’s latest dual-screen laptop. This time it’s an 8-inch device with a full-size keyboard and touchpad, and underneath is a 17.3-inch 21:10 3K screen. This combination makes the laptop ideal for running multiple Windows at the same time.
45W Intel 12th Gen processors deliver consistent performance, but the integrated Intel Iris Xe processor limits your Gaming and creativity. The keyboard is comparable to a 13-inch or 14-inch laptop and feels crisp and clean. The touchpad is large and comfortable. But the real key to the laptop is its large screen and bottom bezels, which give it plenty of screen real estate to work with. This is an unusual but surprisingly useful setup.
